The Ho 'oponopono is a Hawaiian prayer for 'making right', self-correction, and healing. This powerful Hawaiian prayer utilizes the energies of forgiveness and love to cleanse negative energy from the past that continues to manifest problems in our present lives.
This cleansing ritual is incredibly effective and can be applied to practices of self-love, healing relationships, and community wellness.
What I appreciate most about the practice of Ho 'oponopono is its simplicity. I'm drawn to straightforward and effective methods for self-help, spiritual healing, and daily practice. It involves the verbal repetition of four key phrases:
I'm sorry. Please forgive me. I love you. Thank you.
Saying, 'I'm sorry' acknowledges your responsibility in any given situation. Whether right or wrong, you played a part in what occurred, and taking ownership of your involvement is crucial.
When you say, 'Please forgive me,' you express a desire to 'Let it Go' and wish the other party to do the same. This phrase allows whatever happened to remain in the past, enabling you to move forward without the burden of past experiences. Forgiveness is given freely and instantly with the right intention, and you truly don't need others to participate; it’s about releasing yourself from guilt or shame and leaving it behind.
Saying, 'I love you' is vital for self-acceptance. We all make mistakes and have experiences that challenge us. By saying, 'I love you' to ourselves, we open up to the powerful energy of love, which is essential for achieving wholeness.
The phrase, 'Thank you,' embodies the magic of gratitude. Gratitude is transformative and can change energy dynamics. You can practice this gratitude magic anytime you're facing something undesirable by simply acknowledging what you are thankful for. As you express gratitude, you signal to the universe that you accept what is good and functional in your life.
In my experience, offering forgiveness and love to others was much easier than extending that same respect to myself. If you're looking to heal the past, practicing self-forgiveness, love, and gratitude is vital.
Forgive yourself. Let it go! Leave it in the past!
Love yourself, acknowledging that you can make mistakes. Thank yourself, as gratitude is the magic that elevates your experience from a lower to a higher vibration. Appreciate the lessons learned in your journey, as this human experience is uniquely yours.
Useful tips for practitioners include:
Repetition: Repeat the Ho 'oponopono prayer until it evokes emotion. All feelings are valid, but aim to conclude with lightness, relief, and a sense of gratitude. When successful, you'll feel the power of gratitude resonate within you.
Use a mirror: Look into your own eyes as you practice.
Speak out loud: Vocalize your intentions into your environment.
If others are involved, you can include them privately by looking at their picture during your practice. Remember, the process of forgiveness and love is primarily for you; each individual is responsible for their own journey.
Nonetheless, practicing the Ho 'oponopono ritual with willing participants can enhance the experience.
